Detroit startup Bloom has raised $3.6 million in seed funding to expand its marketplace for American manufacturing. SNAK Venture Partners led the round, supporting the company's effort to connect buyers with domestic manufacturers and related suppliers.

Bloom is broadening its reach beyond mobility into areas such as drones and robotics. Its use of artificial intelligence is intended to help buyers search for relevant production capabilities, making it easier to identify businesses that might be suitable for a particular order.

Finding a supplier is only the beginning of an industrial purchase. Buyers also need to establish whether a manufacturer can meet tolerances, volumes, delivery schedules and quality requirements. A marketplace can create value by making that discovery process more efficient, but the eventual transaction still depends on credible supplier information.

The seed round gives Bloom resources to develop both sides of its network. Its commercial opportunity rests on bringing useful demand to manufacturers while giving purchasing teams a practical reason to return. Successful expansion will therefore require more than a large directory: it will depend on whether introductions lead to dependable production relationships.
