XPENG opens electric vehicle platforms and AI hardware to global automakers
XPENG announced at the Paris Automotive Summit that it will license its EV platforms, Turing AI chips, and software toolchains to international automakers.

XPENG Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng unveiled a new business initiative called XPENG AI Engineering on October 13 at the 2026 Paris Automotive Summit. The strategy opens the company's entire stack of vehicle technologies to international automakers, allowing outside companies to license XPENG's electric vehicle platforms, battery systems, proprietary Turing AI chips, and software toolchains.
The announcement transforms the business model of the Chinese automaker. Rather than operating strictly as an electric vehicle manufacturer, XPENG is establishing itself as a global technology licensor for external automotive brands looking to build electric and autonomous vehicles.
Under the XPENG AI Engineering program, foreign vehicle manufacturers can purchase access to XPENG's core hardware and development systems. The shared technologies include complete electric vehicle platforms, electrical architecture, e-drives, battery systems, and software toolchains.
The initiative also includes specialized computing hardware and software models created by XPENG. Automakers will be able to integrate the proprietary Turing AI chip, the AI BOX processing unit, and XPENG's physical-world foundation model into their own vehicle lineups.
Financial performance and partnerships
The decision to expand licensing follows substantial revenue growth in XPENG's technology services operations. According to TechNode, technology licensing generated RMB 4.73 billion ($707.4 million) in revenue under the company's "services and other" category in the first half of 2026.
Revenue in the services division grew 67.1% year-over-year in the first six months of 2026, recording a high profit margin of 71.4%. TechNode reported that this growth was driven primarily by XPENG's existing software partnership with Volkswagen Group.
To support its technology development, XPENG reported research and development expenditures of approximately €770 million during the first half of 2026. The company has engaged with broad industry supply chains, working alongside automotive and software firms including Bosch and Dassault Systems.
European expansion and manufacturing
In addition to its global technology licensing business, XPENG confirmed that it is preparing to expand its commercial service operations in Europe. The company is in active discussions with European mobility platforms to deploy its Robotaxi service in the region.
XPENG is also moving forward with localized vehicle assembly in Europe to support its international growth. The XPENG G9L model recently completed trial production at Magna's automotive plant in Graz, Austria.
