Nous Research Raises $90 Million for Enterprise AI Assistants

Nous Research has raised $90 million in Series B financing at a reported $1.5 billion valuation, giving the artificial intelligence startup fresh capital to bring its Hermes assistant into businesses. Robot Ventures led the round, with participants including Nvidia, Microsoft's M12 and Samsung, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The company's approach combines an open-source assistant with optional paid enterprise features. That creates a commercial question familiar to open-source software businesses: which capabilities will customers pay for when the underlying technology is available more broadly?

For enterprise buyers, the answer may depend on deployment support, access controls and the ability to connect assistants to existing systems. A demonstration can show that an agent completes a task; purchasing decisions also require confidence about what happens when it encounters incomplete information or requests beyond its authority.

The new financing gives Nous resources to develop that business proposition. Its longer-term test will be whether an open-source user base converts into durable commercial demand. The reported valuation reflects investor expectations and should not be read as evidence of enterprise adoption or profitability.
