UK venture capital funds raise record $6.9 billion in third quarter of 2026
UK venture capital firms raised a record $6.9 billion across 31 new funds in the third quarter of 2026, while UK startups secured $6.1 billion in investment.

UK venture capital firms raised a record $6.9 billion across 31 new funds in the third quarter of 2026, marking the highest quarterly fundraising total on record, according to data from HSBC Innovation Banking UK and Dealroom.
The total raised by fund managers was more than four times the quarterly average recorded over the previous two years. During the same period, UK startups and scaleups attracted $6.1 billion in venture funding.
Fundraising and late-stage investments
Index Ventures led fundraising activity during the third quarter by closing three new funds totaling $3.5 billion, covering seed, venture, and growth strategies. Highland Europe raised €1.1 billion for its sixth growth fund, while QuantumLight secured $500 million for its second venture fund. Crane Venture Partners brought in $484 million across four separate new funds.
Late-stage investments accounted for the largest portion of capital deployed into UK companies during the quarter. Late-stage rounds brought in $3.5 billion, or 58% of all startup funding in the third quarter.
Key late-stage transactions included a $1.2 billion raise by CityFibre, a $450 million deal by FNZ, and $312 million raised by OLIX. Meanwhile, breakout-stage companies secured $1.9 billion, and early-stage businesses received $740 million.
Sector performance and European standing
Fintech and healthcare remained among the most active sectors in the UK market, recording 51 and 62 funding rounds respectively in the third quarter. Semiconductor startups raised $497 million during the three-month period.
The third-quarter figure brought total semiconductor investment in the UK to $1.6 billion for 2026, surpassing the previous full-year record of $1.3 billion set in 2025. Analysis from the report showed that nearly half of all UK semiconductor funding since 2010 has been raised over the past two years.
Domestic capital drove a significant portion of deal activity, with nine of the ten most active investors in UK rounds headquartered in the country. These nine domestic firms participated in a combined 60 deals during the quarter.
“The record level of venture fundraising this quarter is an encouraging signal for the UK innovation ecosystem,” said Emily Turner, chief executive officer of HSBC Innovation Banking UK. “Capital raised today gives investors greater firepower to back ambitious businesses through their next stages of growth, and the breadth of new funds being raised shows continued confidence in the opportunities ahead.”
The UK retained its position as Europe’s largest venture capital market, capturing 25% of all European venture funding in the third quarter. Over the first nine months of 2026, UK companies raised $23.3 billion, representing 35% of all venture capital deployed across Europe and more than double the total raised in Germany or France.
