Oxford Instruments reaffirms outlook as interim orders increase 44%

Oxford Instruments PLC has reaffirmed its full-year financial outlook following a 44% increase in order intake during the first half of its financial year, according to an interim trading update released on 13 October 2026. The FTSE 250 technology group reported that order intake growth for the six months ended late September 2026 was driven by strong customer demand in data communications, semiconductor, and materials science applications.

Reported first-half revenue for the group rose by approximately 8% compared to the same six-month period in the prior financial year, according to market reports from Sharecast and AJ Bell. Following the top-line revenue growth during the first six months, management reconfirmed that full-year performance is expected to align directly with market expectations.

The company reiterated its full-year guidance, projecting total revenue of £444.4 million and an operating profit of £81 million for the full financial year. Oxford Instruments also informed shareholders in the trading update that its full-year adjusted operating margin is projected to expand by more than 100 basis points compared to the prior financial year.

Divisional Performance and Order Growth

Performance across individual divisions showed substantial increases in new orders, particularly within the Advanced Technologies division. Order intake in the Advanced Technologies division surged by more than 125% compared to the same period in the prior financial year. Oxford Instruments stated that this surge in order intake was led by volume customer wins in datacom applications.

First-half revenue within the Advanced Technologies division rose by approximately 26% year-on-year. The group attributed this divisional revenue growth directly to an expansion in production capacity, which enabled the company to handle higher demand and deliver increased output during the six-month period.

The Imaging and Analysis division also generated higher order intake, growing by over 11% compared to the same period in the prior financial year. The company stated that order growth in Imaging and Analysis was supported by sustained demand from customers in the semiconductor and materials science sectors.

Corporate Guidance and Market Execution

Chief Executive Officer Richard Tyson addressed the group's overall performance in the interim trading update. He stated that Oxford Instruments maintained strong execution across its operations despite facing uncertain macroeconomic conditions during the six months ended late September 2026.

The reconfirmed financial targets keep Oxford Instruments on track to achieve full-year revenue of £444.4 million alongside £81 million in operating profit, matching consensus expectations gathered from market analysts. The interim update covering the six months to late September 2026 reflects expanded production capacity and margin expansion, with adjusted operating margins expected to widen by more than 100 basis points year-on-year.
