BYD's DENZA to launch urban autonomous driving in Europe in 2027
BYD premium brand DENZA will roll out its City Navigation on Driving Assistant software in Europe in 2027 via over-the-air updates on the Z9GT grand tourer.

BYD Company Limited's premium brand, DENZA, will launch its City Navigation on Driving Assistant software in Europe in 2027, according to an announcement by BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li at the Paris Motor Show.
Speaking at the trade event held on October 12 and October 13, 2026, Li confirmed that the urban autonomous driving system will debut on the DENZA Z9GT model. The vehicle, described as a grand tourer and shooting brake, will receive the features via over-the-air updates, TechNode reported.
The driver-assistance software, designated as CNOA, is a core component of BYD's broader God's Eye system suite. The urban autonomous driving software is engineered to handle specific city driving tasks. Key urban driving capabilities specified by BYD during the Paris Motor Show announcement include managing red traffic lights, steering through roundabouts, making left turns, and overtaking double-parked vehicles on city roads.
Hardware and Driver Safety Features
All DENZA Z9GT vehicles are currently manufactured with the physical equipment required for the system as standard features. The standard factory hardware suite installed on every Z9GT comprises 1 LiDAR sensor, 11 individual cameras, 3 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors positioned around the car body.
To maintain safety standards and ensure human supervision during autonomous operations, the vehicle features an active driver-monitoring system. This safety mechanism includes eye-tracking and head-tracking monitors designed to enforce continuous driver oversight while the CNOA system is engaged.
Regulatory Approval in Europe
While the hardware is already standard on current Z9GT models, the CNOA software is presently undergoing local calibration testing across European road networks. This local testing phase is taking place ahead of formal certification under UN Regulation No. 171, the international standard governing automated assistance technologies.
DENZA is currently awaiting UN Regulation No. 171 type approval before releasing the software publicly. Once regulatory authorization is granted by European authorities, DENZA plans to activate the CNOA system for European Z9GT owners through wireless updates beginning in 2027.
