San Francisco-based Anthropic has signed a long-term lease as the anchor tenant for a C$10-billion data centre and renewable energy development in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, developer EverWind Fuels announced on October 19, 2026.

The facility represents Anthropic's first data centre in Canada and will house computing capacity for its Claude artificial intelligence models to serve Canadian and international demand, according to BetaKit. The move follows recent job postings by Anthropic for a Canadian data centre community engagement manager and a compute lead responsible for bringing computing infrastructure online in the country.

Halifax-based EverWind Fuels is building the project at its existing Point Tupper campus. EverWind stated that the project represents the largest privately funded investment in Nova Scotia's history. The overall commitment includes more than $8 billion for data centre infrastructure alongside $2 billion dedicated to onshore wind farms.

Development is scheduled in two stages. Phase one will deliver 95 megawatts of capacity targeted for operation in late 2027. A second expansion of 325 megawatts planned for 2028 will raise the campus to its full planned capacity of 420 megawatts.

"Canadians are using Claude in growing numbers, and we want our infrastructure to be closer to the people who rely on it," Anthropic Canada Public Policy head Jacob Glick said in a statement. "Canada has set a high bar for responsible data centre development, as has the Premier of Nova Scotia, and we are committing to meeting it."

Both EverWind and Anthropic have signed onto Canada's Responsible Data Centre Development Principles, a voluntary guidelines framework for managing power and water consumption. EverWind committed to funding all electricity system network upgrade costs associated with the buildout to protect local consumer rates, and plans to implement a closed-loop cooling system.

Construction is projected to create roughly 2,000 jobs, with 215 permanent operating roles once the facility opens. A First Nations consortium led by Membertou Development Corporation is currently negotiating a potential ownership stake in the campus.
