Chery unveils scaled vehicle-to-grid demonstration station in Wuhu
Chery Automobile announced China's first scaled AC vehicle-to-grid demonstration station in Wuhu. The facility will host over 2,000 international guests during an upcoming summit.

Chery Automobile announced on October 16, 2026, that it has opened China's first scaled AC vehicle-to-grid demonstration station at its smart energy center in Wuhu, Anhui province. The company said it will present the facility to more than 2,000 international guests attending Chery's 2026 International User Summit from October 19 to October 23.
According to Automotive World, the new center combines solar power generation, stationary battery energy storage, and electric vehicle charging equipment into a localized microgrid. This integrated setup supports megawatt-level ultra-fast charging capabilities while providing power to an on-site renewable energy rest area.
The demonstration center utilizes bidirectional vehicle-to-grid technology. The system allows electric vehicles to charge off-peak at lower rates and feed electricity back into the electrical grid during peak demand hours. In addition, where supported, the bidirectional system enables vehicles to deliver backup power to homes and local communities during electrical grid outages.
The Wuhu facility also includes an island mode feature that keeps electric vehicle charging operational even during external power grid blackouts or disruptions. To shorten charging duration, the site is equipped with Chery's proprietary Volt-dragon Charger technology. Chery is also conducting research into superconducting charging technology.
For home applications, the automaker offers its Energy Cube system. That setup combines solar generation, energy storage batteries, and bidirectional charging to help individual households maximize their use of self-generated electricity.
In battery development, Chery produces long-cycle-life Rhino batteries and is currently developing solid-state batteries. Laboratory test samples of the solid-state batteries have demonstrated high stress tolerance, which the company stated will support ongoing work on safety in both automotive and residential settings.
Outside China, Chery has built a microgrid incorporating solar generation, energy storage, and high-power charging at an electric heavy-duty truck park in Spain. The automaker expects that Spanish truck park facility to serve as a replicable model for heavy freight operations.
