British Business Bank commits £180 million across six technology funds
The British Business Bank has allocated £180 million across six venture capital funds to bolster financing for UK artificial intelligence and deeptech companies.

The British Business Bank committed £180 million across six venture capital and growth equity funds on Oct. 15, 2026, aiming to strengthen the late-stage and early financing environment for UK artificial intelligence and deeptech companies.
The targeted funds have collectively raised over £1 billion in total capital. According to the state-backed development bank, the initiative creates deeper pools of capital for high-potential domestic innovators. The funding aims to address financing gaps for UK technology firms across all development stages, from foundational technology to applied solutions, spanning inception and early-stage funding through to Series B investments and beyond.
The largest single allocation in the funding package is a £55 million ($75 million) commitment to Intrepid Growth Partners Fund I. The fund is a specialist growth investor dedicated to artificial intelligence, with an inaugural $525 million fund designed to bring growth capital to founders and support emerging technology talent.
The bank also allocated £35 million to Crane III, which supports founders globally from inception through the seed stage, building foundational technologies at the intersection of software, infrastructure, and deep science. A further £26 million (€30 million) was committed to Headline EU VIII, a $400 million fund backing Seed and Series A companies across Europe.
Two additional allocations of £22 million were directed to early-stage vehicles. One commitment of £22 million ($30 million) went to the Entrepreneurs First Early Stage Fund, which backs leaders emerging from the platform at Seed, Series A, and Series B stages, including infrastructure firms. Another £22 million ($29 million) was awarded to Evantic Fund I, which invests in and partners with globally focused transformational businesses.
The bank also committed £20 million to Connect V, a fund that backs technical founders at pre-seed stages in hardware, real-world automation, and applied solutions.
This initiative follows an expansion of the bank's government mandate that increased its capital deployment capabilities. The announcement came one day after the bank made a separate £10 million direct investment in Salience Labs, an Oxford University spinout building optical switching technology for data centres.
